They also tend to age badly since they are constantly exposed to UV light (which will destroy a tattoo in a very short time) and since you use your hands so much the cellular turn over is high so that will also age it faster. Your hands are actually very sensitive (lot of nerve endings there) so yes, it's going to hurt to some degree. As for the design itself, you will be the 50 millionth girl in your state alone with a butterfly tattoo, there is no originality in it whatsoever. There are no bones there and it's all skin that is exposed to sun an use every day so that means that more than likely, you won't feel that much pain. This would probably take about 10-15 minutes if that. I suggest you do what I do every time I get a tattoo. Bring your ipod and listen to your favorite music that gets you pumped while you are doing it. Trust me, it'll be over before you know it. Tattoo pain, for me anyway, is like a repetitive scratching of the same spot. Being that you won't get it filled with color since it is just an outline it shouldn't bother you that much at all. It was very quick, and one of the least painful ones I have gotten. Nothing compared to your foot! So anyways, yeah advil should be fine and if you are too nervous maybe get some numbing cream.
